In recent years, perhaps no other inshore style of boat has gained more popularity than the hybrid-bay boat. Savvy boaters with some time on the water have discovered that when the versatility of a do-all boat is still a priority but you want to narrow down the functionality of a boat to cater to coastal fishing while not sacrificing family friendliness, a hybrid-bay model is a logical option.
The Savannah Hybrid Inshore Series features a trio of models designed with just such a boater in mind. These are dead serious fishing platforms that easily convert to sandbar duty with the addition of seat cushions and padded backrests for lounging.
One of the most desirable traits of this hull design is its ability to make the transition from patrolling inshore shallows or deep flats, to drifting an open pass- then moving seamlessly to the nearshore wrecks and reefs along with coastal beaches- even when the wind kicks up a nasty chop. A challenge that any boat builder is faced with when trying to achieve the perfect balance of shallow running capabilities combined with a soft ride in choppy conditions is the proper deadrise angle for the hull's bottom. The necessary ingredient for floating shallow requires a flat bottom that won't drag along the bottom. By contrast, taming an unruly coastal chop requires the appropriate amount of deadrise or V-shape to part oncoming waves.
